Landfill Plant Gets New Life with Control System Upgrade
The Challenge
Highly variable BTU landfill gas generated led to significant power swings at the plant, in addition to engine gensets taking days to start.
Our Solution
Installation of modern digital control system and fuel valves to deliver steady output by compensating for BTU variability. Custom control screens were designed and installed for easier monitoring and operation.

Work being performed on one of the on-site power gensets.
White Marsh Landfill had a set of on-site engine generators that ran on landfill gas, generating additional revenue. The engines were derated significantly below the designed output, as the BTU variability of the gas caused large swings in power output. Gas was instead frequently flared, making the gensets a liability instead of an asset.
