In today’s rail industry, volatile diesel costs and emissions focus are putting pressure on operating costs. While alternative fuels have been positioned to solve these problems for years, proven and scalable solutions have eluded the industry.

At Peaker Services, Inc. and Engenious™ Engineering, we’re not waiting for the future, we’re building it now with our proven natural gas locomotive dual fuel conversions.

Our team actively designs and tests innovative solutions across our development locomotives and stationary test cell engines. These test platforms allow us to build unique solutions for the rail, marine, and power generation markets. Equipped with real time combustion monitoring, fuel consumption, emissions measurement, and data logging, we take a statistical DOE approach to design improvements.

Our stationary engine test units include:

• A 16-cylinder EMD 710, engineered for diesel or dual-fuel (diesel + natural gas) operation.

• A 8-cylinder EMD 645, spark-ignited, running on 100% natural gas or propane. Convertible to dual fuel operation.

Both engines are powered by state-of-the-art digital engine controls developed in the MATLAB Simulink environment using MotoHawk and GAP tools. These advanced application software programs optimize fuel efficiency, emissions, and performance while enabling flexibility with alternative fuels like natural gas, LNG, CNG, ammonia, ethanol, and more.

At Peaker Services and Engenious™ Engineering, we’re committed to turning tomorrow’s possibilities into today’s proven solutions.
