1971

PSI is Founded

Peaker Services, Inc. (PSI) was founded in Belleville, Michigan to field repair and maintain 2.5 MW EMD diesel peaking service generators or “Peakers” as they are known in the utility industry. Demand for PSI’s services grew to include marine propulsion and locomotive applications, retrofitting EMD control systems and factory authorized repair of Woodward governors.
1987

PSI Relocates to Brighton, MI

PSI built a 45,000 sq. ft. locomotive and engine remanufacturing facility in Brighton, Michigan, approximately 1 Hour northwest of Detroit.
2000

ESOP Instituted

Employees acquire 36% of PSI from the founders through an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).
2001

Partners with Woodward, Inc.

PSI was appointed a Woodward business partner and expanded its service applications to include natural and renewable gas engines and steam and gas turbines.
2006

PSI Expands to East Coast

PSI opened a service facility in New Castle, Delaware to service PSI’s expanding East Coast market.
2008

Now 100% Employee Owned

Employees acquire the remaining 64% of PSI to become 100% employee owned through their ESOP.
2009

EPA Performance Kit Developed

Development of the first EPA 1033 Tier 0+ Performance Kit, modernizing a EMD 645 Locomotive Engine to achieve significant fuel savings and remote big data capability.
2018

PSI Acquires ECI

Acquisition of Energy Conversions, Inc. in Tacoma, Washington, a developer of heavy horsepower diesel engine natural gas conversions.

2018 and Beyond

As Peaker Services, Inc. approaches its 50 year anniversary in 2021, we continue our commitment to providing customers with unique solutions to modernizing their existing prime mover power assets.
